  4. the trend setting Manhattan discotheque; of complications from
  5. hepatitis and septic shock; in New York City. During the late
  6. 1970s, when publicity-seeking celebrities like Andy Warhol, Liza
  7. Minnelli and Bianca Jagger flocked to Studio 54, Rubell and his
  8. longtime partner, Ian Schrager, were the kings of Manhattan night
  9. life. The party came to an end in 1979, when the two were convicted
  10. of tax evasion. After serving one-year prison terms, Rubell and
  11. Schrager started successful hotel ventures and a new Manhattan
  12. night spot, the Palladium.
